Pharmaceutical Retail and Pharmacy Sector

With a degree in Pharmacy and over 26 years working in the sector, working my way up from in-store pharmacist to Senior Professional Support Manager at Boots UK head office, I certainly know the retail pharmacy sector!

I can support your pharmacy business through major changes in operations and procedures.

Here are just some of the initiatives I led while at Boots UK:

• A complete overhaul of the Sale of Medicines Protocol following a Which? Report on pharmacies, which won the OTC Marketing’s “Best OTC Pharmacy Training” award in 2017 with CIG Healthcare for “The Boots Healthcare Way”
• Helping create the first nationwide online pharmacy for Pharmacy (P) medicines at Boots UK, ensuring compliance with relevant pharmacy ecommerce regulations
• Co-creating the Independent Medical Agency, for which I was Registered Manager, and subsequently developing the first Private Patient Group Direction (PGD) services in pharmacy, enabling patients to access Prescription Only Medicines (POMs) without a trip to their doctor, through specially trained pharmacists delivering PGDs
• The development of online pharmacy services underpinned by Pharmacist Independent Prescribers as clinicians
• Supporting POM to P switches
• Overseeing copy and product approval and acting as MHRA signatory for own brand advertising
• Representing the company in consultations on Own Brand Licences e.g. pseudoephedrine, codeine, and children’s medicines

While working on these initiatives, I developed excellent working relationships with many regulators and professional bodies such as: the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC), the Royal Pharmaceutical Society, the Proprietary Association of Great Britain (PAGB), the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Agency (MHRA), the Care Quality Commission (CQC) and the Regulation and Quality Improvement Authority (RQIA) in Northern Ireland.
